As you juggle your life’s duties and responsibilities, there is one thing that cannot be ignored – your health. A sound mind, fit body and happy soul are important for a long and healthy life.

1. Make healthy food choices

We are what we eat – literally! Focus on healthy and fresh foods, incorporating green leafy vegetables and seasonal fruits like mangoes, strawberries, pineapples, apples etc. in your daily diet. These are rich in fibre, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and other nutrients and help to detoxify, thereby improving digestion and reducing disease risk.

Indian superfoods like desi ghee, moringa, jackfruit, makhana etc are nutrient-dense while being low in calories and help the body resist and fight diseases. Also, incorporate lean protein that are found in eggs, poultry, fish, beans and nuts into your diet. Consume at least 0.8g of protein per kg of body weight daily*

Excessive salt, sugar and trans-fats lead to obesity and are the cause of diseases like high blood pressure and diabetes.

Make sure to eat 3 meals a day, on time and in moderation to maintain a healthy metabolic rate!!

2. Hydrate

Water is indeed the Elixir of Life! Staying hydrated throughout the day is critical for regulating metabolism, flushing body waste, maintaining healthy digestion, boosting skin health and energy levels, optimizing brain function and warding off ailments.

Drink at least 2 liters of water each day!!

3. Rest, restore, rejuvenate

Sleep is the most important activity of the day! While you sleep, the brain continues to work – overseeing the biological maintenance functions that keep the body in good running shape. Sleep reduces the risk of adverse health conditions and increases longevity.

However, the quality of sleep matters immensely in maintaining brain and heart, boosting immunity, ensuring emotional balance and in keeping the body weight in check.

Get at least 7 hours of sound sleep every night in a dark room. Do not check your mobile phone or worry about the next day’s schedule!!

4. Exercise

Being physically active improves health and longevity. 30 minutes of moderate exercise done 4-5 times a week helps in maintaining weight, heart health, bone density and muscle strength. Alternate between aerobic exercises like walking, swimming and strength training (using weights).

Take a 5-minute break after every hour to walk around and stretch out!!

5. Get some ‘me time’

Time with yourself is essential for your wellbeing! Sit with your favorite beverage, listen to music, read a book, strum a guitar or join a dance class – anything that will help melt the worries away. This will get you ready to face the next day with optimism and enthusiasm.

Dedicate an hour to yourself every day to unwind and recharge!!

6. Alleviate your stress

Everyone needs to alleviate their stress – studies show that people who are compassionate and have a positive outlook towards life are happier and live richer, more meaningful lives.

The practice of Meditation and Yoga is known to increase body awareness, calm anxieties, relax the mind, center attention and increase energy levels.

Meditate daily to release mental stress and calm anxieties!!

Another big reason for stress is financial worry. It stems from life’s uncertainties and creates anxiety about child’s education, family’s wellbeing, mortgage payments etc. The right decisions made today can mitigate the risk of future uncertainties.
